NL MVP Agrees to 4 Year Contract Extension with Charlotte

Eligible for free agency after this upcoming season, reigning NL MVP Sammy Rincon has chosen to avoid the hype similar to LeBron and the NBA Free Agent class of the Summer of 2010 by agreeing to a 4 year contract extension with Charlotte. The prospect of being courted by numerous suitors with flashy power point presentations and cartoons didn't appeal to Rincon, who surely would have been the cream of the crop of next season's free agent class. Instead, he has chosen to remain loyal to the team with which he won his first MVP award, at a far lesser price than he could have fetched on the open market after next season. The extension is rumored to be worth $37.5 million over 4 years, which he will sign as soon as such transactions are allowed for the upcoming season. Taking half as much money as some of his fellow lineup mates are making after an MVP season truly shows his commitment and willing to sacrifice for the better good of the team. If only more athletes followed his lead, the sports world would be a better place. Hopefully Charlotte will reward his loyalty with better postseason performances than getting swept in the first round, like what happened this past season.
